What is vestibular rehabilitation?
Your vestibular system, in the inner ear, works with your eyes and body to keep you balanced. When it isn't working properly you can feel dizzy or unsteady. Vestibular rehabilitation uses targeted exercises to help your brain adapt, so the dizziness settles and your balance improves.
How treatment works
- A detailed assessment of your symptoms, balance and walking
- Vestibular rehabilitation exercises chosen for your type of dizziness
- Balance and strength training to make you steadier
- Falls prevention, including walking aid and home advice
- A home exercise programme you can follow between sessions
Balance and dizziness questions
Should I see my GP first?
If your dizziness is new, sudden or severe, or comes with symptoms such as a bad headache, weakness, numbness or difficulty speaking, get urgent medical help first. For ongoing dizziness or unsteadiness, you can contact me directly.
Can you see me at home?
Yes. Balance problems are often easiest to treat where you live. I see patients at home, in care homes and in nursing homes. See home visits.
Can a family member get in touch for me?
Yes. Many enquiries come from a partner, son, daughter or carer.
Can I use health insurance?
