Non-surgical spinal decompression in Northampton
Gentle, non-invasive traction for disc problems and sciatica. P Shinde Physiotherapy is one of very few physiotherapy clinics in Northamptonshire to offer it.
What is spinal decompression?
Spinal decompression uses a specially designed traction table to gently create space between the vertebrae. This takes pressure off the spinal discs, nerves and surrounding tissues.
Who it can help
- Herniated or prolapsed discs
- Degenerative disc disease
- Sciatica
- Other spinal problems, after assessment
What happens during treatment
You lie on the table while it applies controlled traction to your spine. This aims to:
- reduce pressure on the discs between the vertebrae
- improve blood flow and nutrient exchange in the area
- relieve pressure on nerves and ease pain
Most people tolerate it well, with few side effects. It's usually combined with hands-on treatment and an exercise programme, so the improvement lasts.
Spinal decompression questions
Is spinal decompression painful?
Most people find it comfortable and tolerate it well, with few side effects. The traction is controlled and applied gradually.
Is it suitable for everyone?
No, which is why every patient has a full assessment first. If decompression isn't right for you, I'll explain why and recommend a better option.
Is spinal decompression the same as surgery?
No. It's a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment. Nothing is injected or cut.
What else will my treatment include?
Usually hands-on treatment such as joint mobilisation, and an exercise programme to strengthen and protect your back. See all treatments.
