How I treat

Patient doing a resistance band exercise

Movement and exercise

A targeted, tailored exercise and stretching programme, carried out over weeks or months, to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness. It gradually strengthens your body and improves your overall mobility, and it's the part of treatment that keeps the problem from coming back.

Treatment couch in the clinic

Joint and soft tissue mobilisation

Skilled hands-on techniques, including joint mobilisation and manipulation, to ease pain, loosen stiff joints and help muscles relax so you can move more freely.

Non-surgical spinal decompression traction table

Non-surgical spinal decompression (traction)

A gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses a traction table to create space between the vertebrae. This takes pressure off the spinal discs, nerves and surrounding tissues. P Shinde Physiotherapy is one of very few physiotherapy clinics in the area to offer it.

Commonly used for: herniated or prolapsed discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica and other spinal problems.

During treatment you lie on a specially designed table while it applies controlled traction to your spine. This aims to:

  • reduce pressure on the discs between the vertebrae
  • improve blood flow and nutrient exchange in the area
  • relieve pressure on nerves and ease pain

Most people tolerate it well, with few side effects. I'll assess you first to check it's suitable for you.

Chattanooga Intellect therapeutic ultrasound machine

Therapeutic ultrasound

Sound waves above the range of human hearing are used to promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation. It's well suited to joint pain, muscle strains, tendon problems and soft tissue injuries.

The clinic uses a Chattanooga Intellect unit with evidence-based clinical protocols, offering both 1 MHz (deeper tissue) and 3.3 MHz (more superficial tissue) treatment. Most people feel a mild, soothing sensation, and each application takes 5 to 10 minutes.

Shockwave therapy device

Shockwave therapy

Acoustic pressure waves delivered through the skin to stimulate healing in stubborn tendon and soft tissue problems, such as tennis elbow and other long-standing tendinopathies.

Electrotherapy unit

Electrotherapy: TENS and interferential

Low-dose, non-painful energy-based therapies that stimulate nerve activity to reduce muscle pain, help muscle repair and promote healing.
