Getting the right help at home
The right walking aid or piece of equipment can make the difference between managing safely at home and struggling. The wrong one, or one set up badly, can make falls more likely.
I assess how you move in your own home, then recommend what will genuinely help and show you how to use it.
What I can assess
- Walking aids, such as sticks, frames and rollators, and whether they are the right height
- Getting in and out of bed, chairs, the bath, shower and car
- Stairs, steps and getting around the home
- Simple equipment and minor adaptations, such as rails, raisers and seating
- Moving and handling advice for family members and carers
Why my training matters
I hold the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) Trusted Assessor training and an Independent Mobility Assessor qualification (Access Independent), alongside more than 27 years as a physiotherapist. That means I can combine equipment advice with treatment to improve your strength, balance and walking, rather than just supplying a product.
Questions
Do you supply the equipment?
I recommend what is suitable and explain where it can be obtained. Some items may be available through your local authority; others can be bought privately.
Can you advise carers on moving someone safely?
Yes. I can show family members and carers safe ways to help with getting up, walking and transfers.
Is this part of a normal home visit?
Yes. Checking walking aids and the home environment is part of every home visit, and I can focus a visit entirely on equipment and mobility if that is what you need.
